A lot of things have happened in our lives over the years. The life you live today is a result of all that has happened in the past, including what you did in school, the teachers you had and all those decisions you have made along the way.
Thanks to my former school mates at Nhowe Mission for their learned opinions and contributions on the current situation at the school and general life in Zimbabwe that we share in those emails.

We know our country is going through a difficult phase, but surely one day it shall come to pass. The current economic situation and the political climate in the country affect everybody in one way or another.

We all have different views and opinions about our years in school. But surely we all benefited from our life in school. Your own efforts, the effort and support of all those teachers you had, the decisions you made during your time in school all influenced what you are today. What you decided to do or not to do influenced what you are today. You all know all those things you did in school, that if given the chance to go back in time you will not do or repeat again in school. We all made mistakes in school, some serious to warrant some punishment.
So personally I say let’s be positive and appreciate the contribution of those teachers in our lives.

Yes, not all teachers were good at what they were doing, comparatively others were better. It’s also true some of the teachers and administrators were corrupt. But generally conditions in schools were better those years than what they are today, given the current economic and political situation in the country.

Everyone knows someone who didn’t like to go for studies, everyone knows someone who thought breaking rules was cool. But did the teachers encourage anyone to do these things?
Even though things are not as we would want in our country, surely falsifying and sensationalising the current situation does not help anyone. It is one thing highlighting the true events in the country, and try to influence the situation in a positive way. There has been a lot of negative reports and information circulating about the situation in our country. Is it in our best interests? Definitely NO.

Let’s be factual and let’s share information and ideas that improve our lives. We all have different talents and something that we have learnt in life that you can use to contribute to a better community life. No matter how small you never know how that can affect someone’s life.

We all have problems, disappointments, and frustrations, but its how we deal with our setbacks that will shape our lives more than anything else we do. At least we should try and be positive and come up with ways of helping the current situation.
It is easy for your life to be taken over by these experinces and disappointments, and you forget how to make decisions that change your life. You stop trying new things to improve your life and get comfort in the hopeless situation you hear in all those news reports and articles circulated on the Internet.
Don’t put yourself in a place of learned “helplessness”, you are not helpless. You have the power to make things happen again. Look at life in a positive way and take actions that make life better.

Thanks for all your learned opinions and contributions, discussions like this will surely make our lives better. Special thanks to Wilson, Victoria and Sheilah for leading with positive contributions. In fact Wilson told me about a project that they are currently working on and will surely write a post about it as soon as I get the information from him.

Your opinions and contributions on this post are welcome. Feel free to leave your comment. You can also join our facebook community of friends and former students at Nhowe Mission here: Nhowe Buddies Association.
